Is Amazon testing a cheaper color Kindle?

13/08/2025

A Reddit user shared images of what they claim is a new Kindle device that better utilizes its color E Ink display.Aug 13, 2025, 8:26 PM UTCAndrew Liszewski is a senior reporter who’s been covering and reviewing the latest gadgets and tech since 2006, but has loved all things electronic since he was a kid.A Reddit user, writing in Portuguese, has shared a handful of images of what appears to be a prototype of a small Kindle with a color screen. The device shows the name Kindle Petit Color in the corner of one image, although the post author says that name hasn’t been finalized yet.The Redditor says the screen’s colors are “much better than the Colorsoft” and the prototype lets you adjust the intensity and saturation of individual colors. The size of the device’s screen bezels are similar to Amazon’s entry-level black-and-white Kindle, but they claim it will actually be a little smaller than the 11th-generation version of the e-reader.According to the post’s author, the prototype’s user interface takes better advantage of its color E Ink screen, letting you change the colors of the battery, Wi-Fi, and shopping cart icons, as well as the reading progress status bar. The text of an ebook can also be colored and will dynamically transition from one color to another through four different shades as you progress through a book, giving you another visual clue as to when you’re near the end. These images and details are unconfirmed, and while Amazon has been expanding its lineup of color-screen Kindles, you should take this leak with more than a few grains of salt. Most Popular

4 video game franchises that have lost their identity

Waffles eat Bluesky

For the past few days, my Bluesky feed has been increasingly filled with mysterious posts about waffles. The back-and-forth seems to have started with a tongue-in-cheek post by Jerry Chen lampooning a form of social media sanctimoniousness that’s become all too recognizable on Bluesky: “(bluesky user bursts into Waffle House) OH SO YOU HATE PANCAKES??” Bluesky CEO Jay Graber quoted this … [Read More...]

Windows 11 25H2 reminds me why swapping to Linux was the best idea I've had this year

When was the last time you were deeply, truly keen to check out a new build of Windows? For me, I think the last time I was really wowed by a Windows build was with Windows 7. 8.1 wasn't too much of a jump, and Windows 10 was cozy, but not too exciting. Windows 11 went in the wrong direction for me; it didn't so much as innovate as it did remove key features from Windows without much rhyme or … [Read More...]

5 ways mice can easily become more user-repairable

We’ve seen PC cases evolve with modularity and ease-of-access … [Read More...]

This free browser extension was a game changer for my Dungeons & Dragons group

I love playing tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs), but virtual games just aren’t the same for me, especially when it comes to dice. There’s just something so satisfying about watching your d20 clatter around on the table (before probably landing on a nat one) that you usually miss out on with digital dice rolls in virtual games.
