Are you looking for inspiration to start learning web development? Then this blog is for you. Hey there, my name is Ibrahim and I want to share my journey of how I went from being a non-tech guy to landing a job in web development in just 100 days.I am an engineering dropout and since 2018, I have worked in non-tech roles in early-stage startups. In 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, I had an idea for a startup that didn’t work out. The idea was to deliver fresh fish from the harbor which would be delivered within hours after the fish was caught from the sea. For the startup, I learned some HTML and CSS and made a simple static website. That’s where it all started. But after failing the startup, I never did any web development.
After that, I joined another startup where I handled operations. The vision was to organize India’s highly unorganized construction market. After working excessively for a year, the startup shut down. I was lost and unsure of what to do next. That’s when I decided to spend more time on web development.
I started learning in August 2022, and I found the resources from codedamn.com and freecodecamp.org to be very helpful. These resources were free, and they offered comprehensive tutorials and practical projects that helped me to build a solid foundation in web development. I learned the basics of HTML and CSS, as well as the fundamentals of JavaScript, which is the language that powers interactivity on modern websites.
I also built a few projects such as dynamic websites, a quiz app, a to-do app, a meme generator, and a Bitcoin price tracker which helped me to practice and apply what I learned. These projects were simple but effective in helping me to build my confidence and skills.
Via LinkedIn, I got connected with a generous person who accepted to give me small freelance tasks in his projects even though he knew that I was a beginner. He wanted me to do tasks in React projects, but the truth is I started learning React only 2 days before he gave me tasks. I didn’t tell him that. I successfully completed all his tasks and started getting paid by him.
After working with him for another 2 months, he hired me full-time in January 2023 with a decent package. All the hardships and pain paid off finally, but it’s only just the start of a long learning journey.
I believe that if I can learn web development in 100 days, anyone can do it. It just takes dedication, patience, and hard work. I’m still learning and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
